March Birthstones

Traditionally, a gemstone is associated with each month of the year.

This concept of birthstone gems is believed to date back to the Bible and the Breastplate of Aaron.There were 12 stones representing the 12 tribes of Israel, symbolizing the 12 months of the year and the 12 signs of the zodiac.

There are other origins of birthstones, most notably of Tibetan origin and is over 1,000 years is the Mythical Birthstone List.  Also, the Ayurvedic Birthstone List which relates to Ayurvedic Indian medicine is over 1500 years old.

There are many myths and legends that surround birthstones.  Some cultures tended to wear the stone in which their birth month was in and other cultures owned a set of 12 birthstones. One set would cover each month of the year and people would wear their birthstones according to the date, regardless of their own date of birth.  The thought was it heighten the healing powers if worn in the month of the birthstone.

It has been written that Aquamarine in ancient times was believed to counteract the forces of darkness and procure favor from the spirits.  It is often seen as a stone of courage.  This beautiful pale blue-green stone is said by ancient lore to be the treasure of the mermaids! The name Aquamarine is derived from the Latin words: aqua, meaning “water,” and marina, meaning “of the sea.”  It was often used by sailors as a protective talisman against misfortunes at sea.

For all those born in March, Aquamarine is your stone.

Aquamarine is thought to have an affinity with sensitive people.  It can invoke tolerance of others and can help one overcome being judgemental. It is believed to be supportive for those overwhelmed by responsibility, and is said to clarify perception, clear the mind and unravel confusion.

It is  useful for helping with closure on all levels.   Aquamarine is said to cool and soothe fears and increase psychic sensitivity. Highly protective during pregnancy, it helps to guard both mother and baby from harm and is thought to discourage miscarriage. It is also said that it’s calming energies reduce stress and quiet the mind.

Aquamarine  is a stone of release and a powerful cleansing agent for the emotional body.  Aquamarine can also facilitate the releasing of old patterns of behavior that no longer serve, and can actually inhibit one's growth. Meditating with Aquamarine can bring new insights from the higher self to be applied in daily life.

It is excellent for working with grief, as it assists one in fully releasing attachment to the body of a loved one while retaining a positive emotional connection to the loved one’s spiritual being.

Bloodstone

Bloodstone is a secondary birthstone for March babies. 

It is said to be an excellent grounding, protecting and healing stone.  It is helpful for a confused mind, bringing calm and clarity. It can be used to heighten intuition and increase creativity. it also is said to stimulate dreaming and the recollection of dreams.  It is used to revitalize a tired mind, and help you to rejuvenate your body if you’ve been working too hard.

It is a wonderful stone for calming an irritable or aggressive mind, encouraging patience with others and yourself.
